THE CAMPAIGN FOR UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS

RAISING AWARENESS ON THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

What would your country, and our world, look like if everyone knew their basic human rights? What would happen if they insisted that their governments respect and implement these rights -- not just for their own citizens, but for every man, woman and child on Earth? (They are, after all, human rights.)

It starts with understanding what these rights are.

In 1948 the shadows of the Holocaust and Hiroshima were still passing overhead when the member countries of the UN came together and, under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt, set out to define the rights that belong to every human. The result of their work was the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (the UDHR), which was adopted by the UN as the universal statement of the rights we all share.

TheCommunity.com and fifteen partner organizations are collaborating on a worldwide campaign to educate viewers on this pivotal declaration of human rights. Clear Channel has donated billboads, both electronic and print to the campaign, and we are producing a series of video Public Service Announcements with Nobel Peace Prize winners and top celebrities talking about the UDHR. Videos already shot include Morgan Freeman, Desmond Tutu and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
